 Hazard Perception Test

Knowing how to spot potential hazards while driving is crucial for your safety. Anyone driving should know how to accurately look for situations that could lead to vehicular accidents.

In order to assure that all student drivers know this, the government imposed the conduct of the hazard perception test.

The HPT is a computer-based exam that measures how well a student driver identifies and subsequently responds to potentially harmful situations on the road. The Australian government made the test comprehensible and easy to take, so you don’t need to have any technical computer skills to answer it.

However, the number of questions and duration of the test may vary by state. Student drivers in New South Wales have to take the appropriate hazard perception test NSW practice and NSW hazard perception test. The same thing goes for those is Southern Australia. They have to take the hazard perception test SA. Meanwhile, those in Western Australia have to take the hazard perception test WA.

During the test, student drivers are required to watch a series of videos from the driver’s perspective. This has a time limit though. All of the videos are based on various real-life situations. Then, the student drivers have to indicate the best response to the hazard shown.

Dashboard information (e.g. the speed of the car and the level of fuel) will be shown on the screen. You will be given the driver’s intention in each video as well.

Many people think that the hazard perception test is incredibly easy and that’s why they take it for granted. However, you should still prepare well for this test. After all, preparing for the test will make things easier and save you from the stress of failing.

Here are the top three things you can do to prepare for the hazard perception test:

1.    Take driving lessons with the professional.

It’s great for you to learn from professional driving instructors because it’s proven that professionals teach better than parents or friends. In fact, professional driving instructors have been so good in producing safe drivers over the years, the Australian government gives each student driver a free driving lesson by an accredited instructor.

2.    Take a hazard perception test practice.

Another crucial thing to do before taking the HPT is practicing. There are many websites that allow you to practice answering real HPT questions.Take this advantage by heading to these websites and practicing as many times as you want. In NSW, the hazard perception test practice NSW is pretty accessible, which is a main reason why student drivers there easily pass the hazard perception test NSW.

3.    Avoid taking intoxicating and medication before the test.

Intoxication and medication can decrease your reaction time. Alcohol blurs your judgment, which can hinder you from thinking well during the test. Some medicines can also cause drowsiness, which can clearly impact your ability to pass the test.

Follow the three tips above and properly prepare for the hazard perception test. Drive safely!
